Schubert

The portly young man with little round glasses we see in Schubert’s portrait was also the most prodigious composer of melodies ever to live. In a life cut tragically short, he produced some 600 Lieder expressing all of life’s joys and sorrows. Whenever he had composed a few new pieces, he would invite some friends to a salon or a tavern to unveil his latest lyrical treasures. That poetry will echo out again as the magnificent tenor Michael Schade delivers a recital of remarkable intensity.
